Interactive Whiteboards
« on: May 08, 2016, 04:45:54 PM »
My school has decided they are the future, which means we will no doubt be investing some money in them shortly.  Personally I'd rather the students had tablets or laptops.
I've had limited experience of interactive boards, only using them for one or two students to come up and interact with it whilst the rest watch.
What are other people's experiences, and does anyone know of useful articles they could point me in the direction of.
Cheers

We have some but incompatable with our laptops or so I'm told. I would definitely go for tablets - student centred rather than looking at you do fancy stuff! I did have IWB and probably didn't get the best out of it - would use now if I could as it's there, but wouldn't buy now.

They were all the rage, but our school purchased Activ Boards which require specialist software. It has resulted in them being used as glorified screens! As I prepare most lessons at home and my home computer doesn't have the Promethean software I never create resources which could be used.  We also share everything as a department and one of the four rooms (and teachers) doesn't have an IWB so it'd be pointless creating stuff we can't all use!

I can see that happening here.  When our head was trying to sell them to he was really enthusiastic about how we could show videos on them and display news articles for the class to see.
Maybe I'm ahead of the curve as I've been using my standard whiteboard and projector for this.  ???

Yes - would be a very expensive way of providing a screen! (Which is basically what mine is)
