New specs
« on: November 11, 2015, 11:10:03 PM »
Do we have any ideas when the GCSE and A level specs are due to be accredited by ofqual?  I'm getting a touch jittery that it's going to be a rushed job.

The two EdEdxcel GCSE ones were accredited yesterday. No news on any of the others yet!

I spoke to AQA on Tuesday and theirs won't be accredited until "sometime in the spring term".

Whilst they wouldn't tell me too much they have confirmed that for the new draft specs:
 - Section B (rivers/coasts) and C (living world) have been swapped around in the exam paper
- The paper 3 skills paper is now 1 hr 15 mins but still has a pre-release which they get 12 weeks in advance.

Are you serious about AQA not being ready til the Spring term? We have a 3 year KS4 so I planned to start teaching in January.

Is there a document that compares the new specs?  I found this,
http://geyre.co.uk/2015/04/14/comparison-of-the-new-draft-gcse-syllabuses/ but not sure if the specs have changes since it was produced.  Not helpful when only one spec has been accredited...

So did we but been filling time with old SOLs!
Spoke to AQA an updated draft will be on their site this week, and January likely for approved spec.  Was told we'd be safe to start with the tectonics and climate stuff.

The GCSE is supposed to be a two year course not a three year course.

The new spec starts in 2016 so those starting in September gamble and take their chances. No point complaining about the system if you are not following the rules. Now, if the new specs are not out in time for teachers to prepare for the 2016 start then you would be right to complain, but not now. Sorry. ;)

We are hosting a conference on Friday with all 5 exam boards and OFQUAL present.

I will raise this as an issue.

I know - but I have it on very good authority.
Apparently the website will change soon (or already has - haven't checked).
