AS decoupling

AS and A level have been decoupled.  What exactly does this mean i.e. how is it different to what we have at the moment?

The AS will no longer be half the A level. They are two completely separate qualifications.

Exactly as Edge has said.
Each Awarding Body is offering an AS Level Specification and an A Level Specification as part of the A Level Reforms. Geography is for first teaching in September 2016 and first A Level examination in summer 2018
Totally separate free-standing linear (end of course) qualifications whereby the AS Level examinations make no overall contribution to the A Level. Each specification has it own set of content, skills and assessment.

Therefore many colleges and schools are placing students on three full two year A Level courses.
A small number of students may well still sit an AS Level alongside their A Levels.
The AS and A Levels are designed to be co-teachable and there is much support through the Awarding Bodies, the Geographical Association and the Royal Geographical Society.
To see it in practice I would talk to the Science, History, Economics and other Reformed (September 2015) A Level teachers- they are underway.
With a very clear explanation the students and parents understand it and for those of us who have been around long enough we are back to the 1980's!
