new spec for sept
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:38:16 PM »
Hello. I'm currently on maternity leave and feeling out of the loop regarding changes for September. I can't find anything about any published specs so i am assuming that they haven't been released yet... Is this correct and are there any dates mooted for this?

Thanks

You are quite right - they have not been published yet!
Spring I understand.
Although this is AQA the same applies to other boards http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/subjects/AQA-W-TG-9030-FAQ.PDF#
Teaching will begin in Sept 2016 so you will have a year to choose and plan!

Consultation on new specs out now . DfE says new specs will be out in the Autumn, for the new Eng and Maths this was Nov time ( they are happening a year ahead). This is all for certification in 2018, if you have a 3 year KS4 might not be much time at all!

I do 3-year GCSE. I am hoping that at least there is some indication from boards as to what might be relevant to study in September 2015 with Year 9... Jon Wolton at Edexcel has been asking teachers about this, but not heard anything for a while...

KS3 should be 3 years and GCSE course should be 2!
Sorry - just saying.

With the removal of the need for levels, the only statutory requirement being a need to report end of Year 11 outcomes and so many schools being academies so not having to follow the national
Curriculum , I would question if there now exists the need to talk about KS3 and KS4. Instead just a 5 year course.
I think when you see the new specs you will realise 2 years will not be enough time to teach them. This is the case with the current new Eng and Maths ones and I can only see these subjects getting more time in the curriculum, particularly English, which will squeeze options time and therefore the earlier they can be started the better.
