They are coming :-(
« on: January 18, 2010, 06:12:02 PM »
Dreaded call....ofsted are on their way.

Have a year 8 lesson in which they were doing assessment but school has advised against continuing this and said do something different.

Any ideas for earthquakes or volcanic eruptions would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe something to do with Haiti? Would the Montserrat lesson be suitable for an ofstead?

Scared stiff!

I have told all my little geographers to be prepared for assessment and spent a lesson explaining the plan etc. and now told to cancel!

Hopefully Montserrat will be alright, got a couple of very difficult kids

Noel's Montserrat lesson is great (although as someone on here said recently, I wonder how long it'll be before Ofsted are recognising the lesson!).

Something on Haiti could also be excellent.

Perhaps controversially, I see no reason really though (unless your assessment is just a test) why you need to change your plans significantly - plenty of opportunity for modelling, peer and self-assessment... right up Ofsted's street!

Thats my worry. Would I be slated for using the Montserrat lesson as no doubt they have seen it before?

Montserrat is also topical - http://www.mvo.ms/ has loads of info on recent activity and reports that
'On Monday 18th January pyroclastic flows reached the sea down Aymers Ghaut for the first time.  Helicopter observations on Wednesday 22nd allowed detailed observations of the extent of these pyroclastic flows. Several houses in the bottom of the valley have been inundated and/or caught fire. The photograph shows the detail of the extent of these pyroclastic flows, which have resulted in the deposition of several metres of material at the mouth of Aymers Ghaut. '

If you conduct an assessment the best you can hope for is 'satisfactory'.

Montserrat, if well delivered, will always be outstanding- whether it has been 'seen' before or not.

Best of luck
