KS3 resources
« on: June 27, 2013, 09:37:58 PM »
Hi,

I've recently started teaching at a new school and have been asked to update the resources for KS3 and KS2. Could anyone recommend anything that they have found useful - the dusty store cupboard is certainly in need of a good clear out in preparation for some new and interesting purchases! Most of my teaching has been KS4 and post 16 so I'm looking for some advise please. Many thanks!

My strong advice would be to hold off from spending lots of money on books as the curriculum is about to change. There's been very little new stuff published as a result, and hopefully lots of new resources will be published for the new curriculum. (She said optimistically)

I'd go for things that will be useful in the long term - certainly atlases. At the middle school we had a set of the KS3 Longman atlases for every classroom. KS2 and 3 use them. I would have them near the door so that pupils souls pick one up on the way in to the room - great geography starter for every lesson. http://www.geography.org.uk/shop/shop_detail.asp?ID=526

Do you have a globe for each room?

Other than that, photo packs can often be used flexibly. Lots available from various sources.

There's all sorts of useful things available from the GA. http://www.geography.org.uk/shop/shop_section.asp?KeyStageID=4
