AQA A GCSE 2012 grade boundaries
« on: September 16, 2012, 07:07:38 PM »
Hi all,

I am new to teaching the AQA A spec this year, and as a HoD in a new school. I want to mark all GCSE questions with the most recent grade boundaries so googled around. Am I right in saying that for Unit 1 pupils only required 48/75 (64%) for an A*? This seems very low. If anyone could confirm this I'd be extremely grateful.

Thank you

I've checked on the AQA site - yes, that's right.
But by no means easy to get an A*.

Have you got log-in to eAQA so that you can download markschemes etc?

Having marked that paper once, be very wary about giving anything beyond level 1 in the longer answers. Lots of technical terms used well for L2.

This was a few years ago mind.
I loved the words you wrote to me/But that was bloody yesterday

what is particularly startling is the difference between the two papers in raw mark to UMS conversion....
There is also incredible compression on the physical paper because of the low marks
48/75 to get A* and 56/75 gets you full UMS!
