ADVICE- Going for my first HOD Interview
« on: May 01, 2012, 04:08:28 PM »
Hi

I am going for my first HOD interview. I am not sure what to expect. The last time i went for  an interview (teching Geography job) was 4 years ago.

What should I expect?
What should I prepare for?
Are there things I should know?
what reading up should I do? Specifics I should know?

Thankyou

Make sure you've read your personal statement thoroughly;
Understand what the difference is between leadership and management;
Read the current OFSTED report - what are the strenghts and weaknesses? What would you improve?
What examination specifications are the school doing? What will be the changes to the specification because of recommendations by OFQUAL?;
How would you improve learning of middle children, G&T, lower ability?;
Why is Geography a relevant subject to study?
Does this school offer the EBacc?;

What is your vision for geography at that school?
what is the future of geography?
Is geography still important for 21st Century learners?
what would be your way of raising attainment at GCSE?

All of the above is good advice
National curriculum changes
Fieldwork delivery/provision
What would you change about geography in the school - you will get or should be able to find quite a lot of info already
How will you promote the subject etc
Cross-curricular links
ICT use and promotion

Be able to read/interpret student data - and set targets using it.  Raise online, FFT etc
