Am confused - Outstanding judgements
« on: December 18, 2011, 10:11:39 PM »
Hello

According to this, only one secondary school in the UK was judged outstanding in Geography in the whole of 2010, and they are going to make 'outstanding' harder to obtain next year. Am I reading this wrong?!

http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/schools-judged-outstanding-particular-subject

I have always just missed Ofted in previous jobs but am now a lone Geographer, and worrying about a possible inspection in the next few months.

Beca what are the schools overall examination results like? FWIW, IMO Ofsted largely pre judge schools on examination data and if that data is not good they arrive with a mindset of finding answers as to why. If the data is good they arrive with a more positive outlook. Do bear in mind, OFSTED via the Govt are looking to crank up the heat on 'coasting' less disadvantaged schools. Economics plays a large part in the work of Ofsted IMO. The original concept of a full week, numerrous inspectors incl subject specialists was far more valuable but simply too expensive. Today, expense still IMO plays a part in how many schools will be targetted.
