how do schools that don't allow trips do controlled assessment
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:04:49 AM »
My HT tells me that there are quite a few schools in N london that dont allow trips for controlled assessment. "How do they do controlled assessment then?" he asked

"badly" I replied

Do some schools do controlled assessment without collecting any data?

The schools that I know who are not allowed "to go on a trip" generally do local fieldwork within walking disy=tance of the school. To be the concept of a trip generally implies going further afield using transport! So it might be that these schools hopefully DO collect data, but close to school.

That is the only response printable to such schools.

What next science without labs, PE without leaving the classroom, DT without a workshops, ICT without computers?

Schools in old offices, no need to have qualified staff, no playground gym or playing fields.

They are called Free Schools.

No need to publish exam results or conform to school meal nutritional guidelines either - plenty of chances to install vending machines and boost the cofers of the supporting "charity"...
