What is your very best purchased resource for A-level?
« on: September 21, 2011, 10:18:28 PM »
Hello,

I would love to know what you couldn't do without. I have a small budget and need to set up a new A-level department (just me for Geog so far) in a college. I haven't yet been able to access their old boxes of resources (new job, dept moved floor, builders late etc) so may find I have some things already, and hoping there is a GPS. I know there are cameras and video cameras we can borrow. I have already ordered the obvious (wall maps, local maps, globe, textbooks) and can borrow some fieldwork equipment from established Science dept or make it, so thinking more of IT packages, animations, DVDs, anything obscure etc. Photocopying not in this budget, but only have £350 to £400 to spend. Thanks for all suggestions!

I buy the biscuits usually. Unless the kids work in the supermarket and can, err, get some heavily reduced.

This is true - really helpful updates. Always seemed to be worth getting - believe they do backissues as well?

Possibly a magazine subscription as well - not sure what's still going though?

We find 'Geography Review' and 'Geographical Magazine' useful.  The 'Top Spec. Geography' booklets by the GA are also excellent IMO.

Obviously the NINGs are the main thing here... whoever came up with the idea of those is a genius....  ;)
I have a soft spot for Geography Review, which has excellent articles and contributors and was genuinely useful each issue... Also my former tutor Tim Burt was heavily involved in its creation. I have a copy of Volume 1 Issue 1 and am open to offers...

Also used GeoFile, GeoActive and GeoFactsheets...
