Year 11 leaving gift
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:28:35 AM »
I'd like to give members of my form a gift when they leave. Does anyone have any ideas. I have baked biscuits for them before so I could go down that route but thought I'd ask about too

Thanks

When I left my last job I got my class to vote on a 'Good Gift' - gave then several options that I printed out and they put stickers on the one they wanted. An alternative is the Oxfam gifts.

I gave my 6th form form an 'exam survival kit': a home made 'Don't Panic' badge, a can of Red Bull and a few other bits...

When my form who I had taken through from Yr7 left last year, I printed them each a copy of the form photo we'd had taken, and wrote each of them a message on the back - some of them thought it was a bit soppy, but most seemed to appreciate it, and I'm told that one of them still has it as his Facebook profile photo!

I write a poem for each of my classes:  I decorate with pics from our fieldtrips, do a soppy powerpoint, again of pics (happy to send if you want to see it) and then colour copy the poems as a gift. I also spend their last lesson doing a quiz.

Here's one of my poems:

I’m sure that each of you will agree,
that you are a special class to me.
Geography has brought us close together,
with rocks, volcanoes, rivers and weather.
Trips to the coast in wind and rain,
good laughs, good times, but never again!

Let’s take a look at the girls in our class,
each one of them is a fab-u-lass lass.
Victoria, Abigail and Abbi work hard,
their wit and humour keep me on my guard.

Eleanor’s coursework is a joy to read,
Hayley and Hannah are terrific indeed.
Jodie rides in with saddle a-blazing,
All good at geography, I find them amazing.

Rachel just worries but doesn’t need to,
A* for Bethany where will that lead to?
Perhaps to becoming a geography student,
such a future could prove to be prudent.

The boys in the class are an utter delight,
but give me nightmares into the night.
Sean is a rugby star but cannot stop talking,
his chatter could cause me to start sleepwalking.

With one Luke here and one Luke there,
as politicians they’ll be a formidable pair.
But will Nathan ever develop the knack,
of not misbehaving, behind my back.

Phil the perfectionist and Brennan quite lazy,
Michael is brilliant and Liam is crazy!
Simon and Darrell worked hard to the end,
Teasing Brennan drives him round the bend!

A bunch of characters each one divine,
I must rush off and drink my red Wine!

Mr Men books! We have vertical tutoring so i only lose about five of my tutees a year. But, I buy the Mr Men book that best suits their personality, and write a small message in the cover, the kids love them.

I used the Oxfam website to sponsor a Kenyan teacher's training on behalf of my form. They all thought it was a much better idea to do this that to give them the tat that other form tutors seemed to be dishing out - but then they have been well trained for 5 years  ;)
