The above is what I should have called that thread about Population change in East Germany.

Here is a EU pdf on 'The Demographic Challenge in Europe'

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/inddem/docs/papers/The%20demographic%20challenge%20in%20Europe.pdf

Lots of facts and figures including global data.

Ian. Have you heard anything about 'Peoplequake'? I think that this is the book that this article is based on. Will have to do a bid of reading about Fred Peace. Could be a good 'un ...

I tried to order it this morning but couldn't get the Guardian bookstore thing to work.

Yes, definitely want to get that book.

At all sorts of level, including personal and financial, I think it is worth really thinking this through.

I think that the book is published on the 5th Feb.

The thing is the pop pyramid of Britain already shows this happening. I'm trying to stay grounded in my thinking but I really had never thought through the implications of this so much before.

In at least some senses Britain as we know it will change dramatically in the fairly near future. But in fact what we regard as our society, culture, way of life is itself essentially only 150 or so years old.

Time for change. But in which direction?

PeopleQuake cheaper at Amazon and free delivery ( not sure if that is just me).

Another of his books is out in April:

The Coming Population Crash: And Our Planet's Surprising Future (Hardcover)
by Fred Pearce (Author)

I'll report back on PeopleQuake.

How reliable is Fred Pearce as a scientific author?

I've used "When the rivers run dry" with for water conflicts at A2 and couldn't find any obvious problems with it. It was accessible for the students which is a big plus point.
