Looks a good one.

I recommend trying to get hold of the action aid resources (The age of stupid).  Some bits about siting wind farms.

We had our meeting the other day - will share resources when the CD arrives.  Apparently Episode 7 of Series 1 of Coast is about the Isle of Lewis.

I have also started a Google Wave as a way of sharing resources and ideas but also allowing people to experiment with Google Wave.  A couple of people have requested invites, and I have a couple more spare.  If you're already on Wave and want to join in, DM or email me your Google Wave address and I'll add you to the Wave.

The Background     resource 1  and 2
Resource 1  The supply of electricity in the UK reliance on electricity generation; changing nature of energy sources used Issue: what may have to happen in the future in order to maintain our current levels of supply
1)   Create a timeline and mark on the information from resource 1

Resource 2  Energy in the UK  Notes Energy gap; Energy use and sources; potential alternative energy
A – Energy gap – need to develop- renewable B – rapid growth of demand haw it may be facilitated  (surprise = new sources of energy yet undiscovered) C – answer may be wind power
2)   Add the information onto the timeline

Homework 1
Plan answers to any  all  some  of these
1)Using the resources describe how different energy sources have been used in the Uk from 1960 –present day?
2)Use the resources to describe and explain the location of the different types of energy shown on the map of GB?
3)Suggest explanations fro the increase in demand for energy from 1860 – 2060?
4)Give 2 pieces of evidence from resource 1 and 2 to prove that we need to develop alternative sources of energy?
5)What is meant by the energy gap?
6)Use your own knowledge to make your own suggestion  as to how the UK could fill the energy gap?

The Options resource 3 4 5 6 7
Resource 3  Meeting UKs renewable energy commitments – why wind energy?  UK renewable energy targets.
1)   What is the UK energy commitment?
2)   How do  the relative costs compare (Cheap energy will  NOT come from either onshore or offshore wind farms)
3)   Hidden cost of coal and nuclear Decommissioning and pollution (acid rain; CO2)
4)   Types of wind farm (compare  / contrast.)

Resource 4  Identify patterns or most suitable areas. Annotate copy of map ( Wind farm UK location)
1)   Trends from pie charts and graphs mark onto the timeline from lesson 1
