1/4 - Milk

This look at British agriculture over the last century begins with the white stuff. "Drinka Pinta Milka!" chirped 1950s posters, encouraging rosy-cheeked schoolchildren to queue up for breaktime freebies and dairy farmers to overproduce, aided by fixed pricing and genetic selection. Then came EU milk lakes, quotas and the tyrannical reign of supermarkets. Following the peaks and troughs of two dairy-farming clans, the Goslings and Gosfords, this will make you yearn for the days of widespread doorstep delivery.
