Virtual Reality in Geography
« on: June 06, 2017, 11:25:23 AM »
Hi all,

I'm hoping to carry out a Virtual Reality morning with our new year 7 for next year. I came up with this idea following some suggestions on social media. I know Google have been doing some classes with VR headsets and using Google Expeditions, however, I'm aiming to do this myself and develop it further within the Geography & whole school classrooms.

Has anyone else done something similar?

It seems that the cardboard headsets are available at a fair price (£2-3) however the issue it seems with the devices itself.
The cardboard headsets are too small for ipads which the school have already got. It seems that they are only compatible to smart phones or ipods.

There are logistic issues with asking pupils to bring in their personal mobile devices and cost factors with ordering a set of ipods!

Has anybody else come across this? Finding solutions to the problem are very welcomed as I feel there is a great opportunity here that I do not want to miss out upon.

Many thanks

We had Google in via the Open University
I wrote about it here:

Richard Allaway has been doing quite a lot of work in the area you're talking about and did 2 workshops at the recent GA Conference
I've put in a bid to have funding for a set of headsets and cheap devices to run tours and am waiting to hear whether I have been successful in my bid.
