General Discussion / Re: OCR B Geography Pre-release dates
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:27:12 PM »
I agree with OCR unfortunately that the SDME should be taken in the summer of year 10 or January of year 11 if resits are needed.  I couldn't imagine putting my students in the position of revising for the whole course at the end of year 11 - what is the point of having a modular exam then?

This is one of the reasons why there are many exam boards out there.  If we as teachers do not like the way the exam board treats its customers then we are entitled to change.  It is a free market.

I am entirely happy with my choice of OCR as exam board and feel it gives the students at my school a good range of assessment opportunities.  This obviously doesn't suit everybody but it seems to me that all exam boards/courses have their flaws.

The exam is not until the 13th June!! Surely there is enough time to fit in three weeks of prep before then?  We have a half term and an extra week after half term to prepare the students (according to my LA term date of course).  I think its right that all teachers should open the materials on the same date to ensure fairness.

I am really pleased with my results too!  Much more accessible topic and resource booklet.  I couldn't imagine putting kids under the pressure of doing all the exams at the end of the course as some people have suggested, when trying to revise for the terminal exam too!  I hope modular exams don't disappear under the new government.

If you have access to OCR interchange you can download past papers from the short course which follow the same format as the final B563 exam.

I agree David, I think the feedback given from the summer has been taken into consideration and the questions were a lot more accessible in my own opinion.  Will see how the marking goes....

Do you have access to OCR interchange?  You can download the January one for OCR spec B and legacy ones from OCR spec C from there.

GCSE Geography OCR B Get Ahead

This course was really useful in giving specific information on each of the three components of the course - Sustainable Decision Making, Controlled Assessment and Key Geographical Themes.  I gained some really useful ideas for the controlled assessments and it was really useful going through and practise marking past scripts.  I would certainly recommend this course as a must for anyone doing this spec.
