General Discussion / AQA B Grouply/Ning Resources - available!!
« on: June 23, 2012, 06:11:22 PM »
I have just had an email from Grouply with a massive zip folder full of all the files which were uploaded.  It is a huge file (243mb) which I am temporarily storing in my dropbox until I need the space for something else!  The materials can be downloaded by clicking this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qd33av10rl8soo2/AQAB%20Ning.zip

This is really good news as we all thought we had lost everything.

General Discussion / Fieldtrip updates whilst away
« on: May 31, 2012, 07:02:27 PM »
We are off to Iceland this summer and I want to be able to keep parents up-to-date with our adventures - pictures and brief details.  Whilst I'm computer literate my scial netwrking skills only extend to my Facebook page.  Any suggestions about how I could easily do this would be most appreciated.  Ideally this needs to be relatively private so only invited parents can see images.

The site has recently vanished (as of 24th February 2012).  I had no idea this was happening and I am trying to get hold of the resources to post elsewhere.  Sorry!

General Discussion / Scale on Google Earth
« on: October 03, 2011, 08:23:57 PM »
In order to satisfy L3 descriptors for controlled assessment (AQA B) any maps used have to have a scale attached.  A number of our kids have chosen to use images from Google Earth which have the altitude on, but no scale.

Can anyone help find a scale on GE, or is the altitude reading sufficient?

On now - fabulous!  Apart from the cheesy links and in-jokes between presenters!!  Nice short section on Boscastle as a quick case study revision or introduction.

Does anyone have a copy of the alternative geography level descriptors?  The ones where level 3 is using crayons and level 8 is using scented gel pens!  Can't find my copy anywhere and really want a copy for our office!  Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Top Gear Polar Special
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:45:19 AM »
Just been looking through the vast number of class clips now available through the BBC Learning Zone website and found that the Top Gear Polar special is online: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/meeting-the-challenges-posed-by-polar-travel-traditional-or-high-tech/8197.html

I've been busily trying to plan the rest of the extreme environments topic for GCSE (AQA B) and this will work a treat for the cold environments section.

These clips are well worth a look, there are a number that have two versions, one with narration and one without.  I've found its a great way to get the kids to actually watch the video, rather than looking away and taking notes, it also gets them thinking about what might be going on and why.  We try to guess as much as we can and see what we got right!

General Discussion / Geography Work Experience

Any suggestions for a Y10 doing work experience in the summer term?  She loves geography, even in Y8 told me she wanted to do the subject at university!  Anything geography related.  I have very few ideas - can't think!!

General Discussion / Help! Recording digital TV
« on: January 02, 2011, 07:11:18 PM »
I am a bit behind the times and currrently have just a regular TV with in-built freeview.  I'd like to be able to do two things:
1. Record series to watch in my own time - I know I can do this with a Freeview Plus box - easy!
2. Record things to disc for use in school - is this possible?  If so what do I need to buy/do?

Many thanks, the easiest and cheapest solutions only please!!
