Hello from an old timer. I was promoted so lost my Geog.  Now back to three days a week part time teacher so was really hoping for some Geography.

Sadly - the school has taken away my GCSE Geog as timetabled on a day I don't work (I've said I would work that day too !) - logistical reasons they claim, and given me:

Y11 Child development
Y10 Child Development
Y10 Health and Social Care BTEC
Y9 Travel and Tourism BTEC
Year 10 RE GCSE
Year 7 RE
Year 7 Food Technology

Oh and one Y8 Set 4 Geography split - so one hour a week.

Pass the tissues......or give me the heads up on a new job!!!

Thank you - and happy summer SLN ers. x

OK so this is my 'plan' !

Intro to North America - basic Geog
Native Americans
Racism - civil rights MLK
Migration from Mexico to USA - rise of Hispanic population
Rap music - analysis of eminem and write their own rap/record it for qualification
Gun crime
Tourism - hawaii dirty beaches
Future for USA

So, any links to any good resources would be great - thank you SLN !

Thanks for suggestions - am also looking at linking to literacy with some work analysing american rap music ;D

Well it has not stopped raining here so am having a look at my first week planning for my new school.

I am teaching a Year 11 ASDAN group for 5 hours a fortnight looking at 'other cultures'.  They have done Brazil and South America and have been told they like controversial issues.

So, was thinking North America

Place/ people/ culture / food / famous people / famous places then either oil or seal culls or polar bear issues.

Any help would be gratefully received as I have no scheme of work or specification to work from ....

Bah humbug!  Could you not do a geography quiz at the end of term, slipping in the odd randomly geographical question no and again?  Google Earth round in your local area, news round-up 2012 etc. Fun but not at all Christmassy!!  Good luck in your new school.

Cheers Edge - I rebelled and did it anyway !

Am depressed, all Christmas cancelled, no Xmas lessons, school extended to teach formal lessons until 3.10pm, not even a get together time with my TG.

Still new job in January so hopefully a more child friendly school :-)
