General Discussion / Come and teach Geography in the Isle of Man.
« on: May 09, 2018, 07:41:47 PM »
I know there is a separate section for jobs, but this is a fantastic opportunity to work in the most beautiful part of the British Isles - so I wanted to make sure people saw it!

A Geography Teacher is required at Castle Rushen High School.  This is a permanent post.

We don't have OFSTED.  There is a relocation package for the right candidate.

Here's a picture of the local village - Castletown.  Why wouldn't you want to work here?!

Closing date is 18th May.  Good luck.

If you're doing AQA 'A' Level, this might be the basis for a good little case study on regeneration...

http://www.theguardian.com/cities/video/2014/feb/04/enfield-experiment-london-video-vision-folly

It considers the decline in Enfield and how they are trying to encourage businesses to reinvest in the area.

If you're stuck for something to watch now The Bridge has finished, you might like to watch this fascinating programme...  http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03srmm6/Easter_Island_Mysteries_of_a_Lost_World/

How they erected and moved the moved the moai is very interesting, as is what happened to the people and the environment.

Not necessarily something you'd be showing to the students but I recommend it.

Looks like it will be a good prog for anyone doing AQA AS Geography and the health and tobacco TNC bit.

Cheers.

I reckon we could start a thread just on interesting (but not too barmy) Daily Mail articles.

General Discussion / Mexican/US border webcams
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:11:19 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has come across this website:

http://www.blueservo.net/vcw.php

If you register for an account, you can watch upto 18 live webcams, showing various sensitive parts of the US/Mexican border.  The website has been devised to encourage members of the public to report suspicious activity with regard to migrants.  My GCSE students certainly found it interesting to watch, though we didn't spot anyone!
