General Discussion / Desert plant adaptations
« on: January 11, 2017, 01:59:59 PM »
Sorry to be a pain but can anyone suggest any video clips that I could show to help with this? Also has anyone got suggestions of how to make it really engaging. I was going to design a plant but students have already designed a rainforest animal. many thanks.

General Discussion / Rainforest clip

I know this sounds ridiculous but can anyone suggest a clip I can watch about tropical rainforest vegetation? I have a very low ability class. My room is very bright even with the blinds closed so I have no chance with Planet Earth and the cappock tree! Thanks in advance .

General Discussion / Exam scripts
« on: September 04, 2016, 04:43:35 PM »
Sadly no student last year achieved an A grade in AQA Geography syllabus A.  If anyone is buying back scripts to use in classes at this level I would be really grateful to receive a copy. Scripts from other years at this level would also be very helpful. I know its a big ask but thanks in advance.

General Discussion / GCSE starting in year 9
« on: June 22, 2016, 03:16:27 PM »
My school has made the decision to start gcses in year 9. I am very aware that this year group will struggle with the jump in the academic demands. Has anyone else faced this problem ? I was considering some sort of bridging course at the start of the year but I'm not sure this is the answer. Also can I ask if other schools in this position teach completely different topics in a two year KS3 to those covered in the gcse or do you overlap? Many thanks

General Discussion / KS3
« on: June 11, 2016, 02:33:06 PM »
We are going to adopt the approach many schools have taken which is to cover gcse over  three years . I would be really interested to know what topics schools cover on a two year KS3. Many thanks .

I'm sure I have seen in the past a very short but simple animation which explains this. Does it ring any bells with anyone?
Thanks.

General Discussion / Crime activity
« on: July 06, 2015, 01:59:23 PM »
Does anyone remember seeing a crime design activity where students have to design a housing estate but they are only able to select from a certain number of objects which are all given a price? Students have a budget that they can spend.
I am probably going back a few years now. Thanks

I would really appreciate some help in trying to get across the differences between the long profile and cross section of the river and how the shape changes over the three stages. Many thanks.

I have tried to make a jigsaw to help with revision but when I go to create the puzzle it takes away spaces in the sentences . Is this normal? Thanks

General Discussion / New student
« on: December 16, 2014, 10:08:29 AM »
I have just had a student join my year 11 class from Ireland. Help. Has anyone any suggestions of how best to help him? We do AQA A and obviously this student  hasn't. I am used to EAL students arriving throughout the year but have not been in this situation before. I have been given no background info regarding his ability etc. He actually seems brighter and more hardworking than my other students. If only I had had him from the start!!!!!

General Discussion / Population Living Graph
« on: July 06, 2014, 03:09:00 PM »
Just wondering before I start this if anyone has anything to start me off. I want to look at the growth of population in the UK. I was thinking of getting students to perhaps complete a line graph and then to put statements around it which could explain the changes. It is for year 8 so I don't want it too complicated if that makes sense. Thank you .

General Discussion / jobs

Am I right in thinking there is a shortage of geography teachers? My school has advertised a Head of Fac role with geography specialism    and no one applied. It them advertised a main scale post with again very little interest. Apparently very few people have graduated with a pgce from Manchester this year.

General Discussion / powerpoint
« on: May 31, 2014, 12:20:53 PM »
Sorry to sound stupid but my laptop has decided not to work. I have managed to get a very old one to work. If I make a ppt on 2003 would my computer at school be able to recognise it and open it. I don't want to waste a load of time but also want to be able to sleep as my school have all year unannounced observations and I am never very lucky. Thanks
