General Discussion / Map Work unit
« on: May 16, 2013, 10:12:11 AM »
Dear All, we recently did a survey of the topics that the pupils liked  least and mapping came out worst by a long way. Does any body know how to make this more interesting? We do use map zone for kids which is great. Any ideas of what we can put in a new unit? we have the usual 4/6 grid reference, compass, map symbols but the unit is not cutting it with the pupils. Like me it is old an tired.

« on: September 07, 2011, 08:03:56 PM »
Just started teaching travel and tourism  Intermediate 1( Scottish syllabus) and there are no text books for the course. Individual units are available for download from Learning and Teaching Scotland web site  which are very good but a text book would come in handy. Can anybody recommend a suitable text book?

General Discussion / Effect of moon on tectonic plates
« on: March 12, 2011, 10:47:02 PM »
One of my 6th year students asked this question  and I had no idea. On the 18th of March the moon is in its closest proximity to the earth since 1996. Now as  the moon effcts tidal movements, would the increase tidal movements associated with this event allow an increase  weight of  water  pressing down on the plates with high tides or reduced weight of water on the plates as the tide ebbs play a part in the Japan earthquake by causing the plates to slip or move Any info.
