General Discussion / Re: edexcel A Sophisticated presentation techniques
« on: January 21, 2017, 05:46:17 PM »
I have classed sophistication things that are beyond excel so I would say if a student has made pie charts and then located them on a map to essentially make a simple gis map as sophisticated. Although it depends those that just dump pie charts on a map with no thought would not be appropriate data presentation. But if they were clearly showing spatial data then yes sophisticated and appropriate.

I class any use of gis sophisticated, wordle and any graph which has been changed and manulipate outside of excel as sophisticated.

I had no disagreements last year from my moderator on my marking so that is what I am going with.

General Discussion / Helping students in writing

Good morning,

I am looking to create a writing frame to put on desks to help students in their writing and was wondering what acronym type things people use. I know of TEA (trend, evidence, anomaly). What other ones are helpful for students?

General Discussion / Cross Curricular Projects
« on: October 13, 2015, 05:28:43 PM »
Good afternoon,

We have a teaching a learning week in school where we can be as "fun" and different as we like. I was thinking of doing a cross curricular project with RE and History as we have very few links. Does any one have any slightly different and new ideas? Creatively is not my strength unless I see an idea first!

Thanks

Good morning,

I am looking at revamping the summer work that we set for year 9 going into Gcse geography and for the year 10 into year 11. As inspiration I was just wondering what kind of activities other schools set.

Thank you for your ideas in advanced

My students found it more difficult than the sam's material that we used as a mock but they were half happy half not with the whole thing. It felt like there was a lot of reading though.

General Discussion / Rasing the A* % in results
« on: December 04, 2013, 05:43:49 PM »
Hi,

I am having to run how to get an A* revision session after Christmas in order to boost grades. My strengths are more at the C/D borderline and increasing those grades, so I am looking for some ideas on what I could do with the A* students that would be beneficial to them and make them really think about how to get their A*.

Thank you in advanced.
