General Discussion / Re: HDI similar to GDP

I'm a little confused. Would we not be more surprised if there wasn't an excellent correlation between the two given one makes up a 1/3 of the result of the other? Isn't the point that it highlights some of the outliers from the GDP/development model?

science on trial - bonkers
I wonder if they send them to jail if they are overly-cautious? Could be a lot more earthquake warnings in Italy!!

I always use the first 7mins or so of Supervolcano as the starter
The Geography is fairly accurate and they like the drama of it!

The buffalo is mentioned in the link I posted
Essentially you 'sign up' to family planning in rural areas and you get discounted/free use of the buffalo to help you plow the fields

Thailand has some great schemes, policemen giving out free condoms the students enjoy

I believe they also have the highest level of sterilisation in the world as well

Not heard about the motorbike but the family planning buffalo and vasectomy carnivals in Thailand always provoke some good discussion!

It is also VERY hard to appeal a remark (which is already an appeal)
The only option you have left is a proceedural complaint and my best wishes to you if you try - akin to head and brick walls

My advice would be to go for whatever is the most up-to-date!
I've always been a fan of the Philips one
Get 20 of the same edition and put the other 11 in another classroom or something - different editions is just annoying for all involved

I suspect Amazon will still be your friend on price but some of the sellers e.g. Bookpoint are open to haggling but youre really not buying many with 20. I bought 120 and got quite a good deal ;-)

I wonder what the CAA would say to the SLN effect of lots of home-brewed satellites!

Indeed Anne, email with insert is on its way back

Anne, Tiger Sun, Terry
Send me your email addresses and I will email you the insert

what is particularly startling is the difference between the two papers in raw mark to UMS conversion....
There is also incredible compression on the physical paper because of the low marks
48/75 to get A* and 56/75 gets you full UMS!

General Discussion / Re: Geographies and Geography
« on: September 16, 2012, 09:48:55 AM »
I have always assumed geographies to be a nonsense word that someone invented to make it sound better
I really dont know how a person can have different 'geographies' - surely the eclectic mix of influences makes you have one, your own personal, geography
one for the banned words list I think!

Really good and a great reminded of the original David Rogers blog and SLN topic!
i meant to do this for the new term and didn't manage - job for this week!
