General Discussion / Engaging White British & Extending more able
« on: June 20, 2016, 08:14:11 PM »
Our head has asked each department to have a specific strategy about how to raise attainment of white British. We have a lot of whine school initiatives and other than glossaries and literacy help we are struggling in Geography. I was wondering if anyone has any strategies they use either through curriculum tailoring at GCSE & KS3 or any other initiatives. We are London based so have a wealth of resources. Thank You any help greatly received.
Likewise extending the able strategies would help too.

I think this would work really well and really feel that the more people on board with resource sharing at this really difficult time of change the more we will
All benefit and try and cut down on our work rate a little!!

Thank you that sounds really interesting the idea of cross curricular especially to strengthen the importance. I will look into it.

Hello it is
Alexandra Hall

Hi Rob,
This is really useful and I have tried searching for the page but it does not come up under OCR Geography as a search, despite me trawling through it. I am probably being technophobic- how do I find it?

Could we set up a Dropbox account to share?

General Discussion / Homework
« on: June 07, 2016, 10:47:50 AM »

I was wondering what other schools do as far as setting homework and whether it is weekly or through an project that is open ended that takes a half term and then is collected in?
SLT announced yesterday it wanted ideally all departments by 2 weeks time to have planned and produced homework to go down the project based route like History do such as WW2 and the students then produce a piece of work however they wish whether and essay, model, dress, video, cake etc that shows their understanding of the topics.
Has anyone else done this and been successful.

I am keen to share as I too am doing OCR A level and AQA GCSE. Went to AQA Inset before half term and there seemed no response from AQA about setting up a resource sharing site unfortunately. What is the easiest way to do it?

I would be interested in joining and sharing resources on both an AQA GCSE ning or equivalent & OCR A-level.

I went on an INSET yesterday for OCR and there seemed interest in sharing resources although through these I don't know/think that OCR will be setting one up formally however from what was said unlike other exam boards who will fund it.

Any ideas how we do this for both?

General Discussion / New OCR A-level Geography ning?

Does anyone know if a ning for the New OCR A-level Geography spec has been set up?

I would be interested in sharing resources if anyone else would that has chosen it.

This is a link to the 2016 old GCSE AQA A Ning.

Am just wondering if one for the new GCSE has been set up?

General Discussion / Re: Calling London schools

Thank you Nick.
Do you mind me asking what type of school you are- we are a state academy.
That would be great if I could arrange to meet up to gain pearls of wisdom and impart
Them on my department.

General Discussion / Calling London schools
« on: January 25, 2016, 12:34:39 PM »
The results for my department last year were dire slipping by 10% from the previous year. My new head has suggested I contact other schools with a similar intake to ours in SE London and identify and good practice that they use to achieve good results much better than ours that I could transfer to our department.

I am also looking at how much time each department is given to teach the GCSE. We have 2 lessons per week 55 minutes which although this is the guided learning time feels impossible to teach all content and develop exam skills and assessment.

Thank You any help and departments I could visit would be much appreciated.
