Title: Castle Head or Snowdonia FSC?
Post by: AliceWJ on September 23, 2016, 04:41:33 PM
Hello. We are off to Blencathra in 2017, for 5 days, but unfortunately they are already booked up for our dates in 2018! I would really appreciate any advice on whether you'd recommend their other LD centre at Castle Head or go to the FSC in Snowdonia instead. The trip is for Yr 12 students to gather data for their own glaciation coursework and/or to get some data in a rural settlement to compare with data they'll collect themselves back in London, for a Diverse Places themed coursework ( Edexcel). We will be catching the train from London and we hope to have around 20 pupils. They both look great to me, and I personally love both areas, so someone else's views would be useful.
Thank you in advance
Alice

We've been going to Rhyd-y-creaua (spelling is off, there are too many vowels and I can never get them in the right order!) in Snowdonia for years. It's lovely, fantastic staff (office, kitchen, housekeeping), well kept property, excellent fieldwork locations and great food. Some rooms are. Dry small in the newer part of the building, but big enough for what they are - if that makes sense?! This of bathrooms and showers and almost all the staff rooms are now en suite. Where they can, they've always given us singles for staff too. It's worth giving them a call to chat through the specifics in terms of the taught course. They've always been very flexible too and used our resources (fieldwork booklets) with the kids, which makes my life easier back at school as everything is in one place. They accomodate us arriving late in the evening and provide a (paid) room for our coach driver - I really cannot fault them.  Looking forward to my next visit this July!

We visit Rhyd-Y-Creuau too and would recommend - food there is the best we have at any location on residential fieldtrips.
