Title: Level descriptors
Post by: geog2312 on July 01, 2012, 05:26:08 PM
Hello,

In time for next week and Yr 6 transition/Introduction each department is expected to have a set of level descriptors that we can give to parents to show them how and on what their children will be assessed.
I was planning to overhaul this is in the summer as our current levelling does not meet all the criteria/strands of the NC.

Please can anyone help give advice on what they do. We currently only really focus on skills such as describe, explain, analyse, evaluate and the content is secondary.
We also only teach 2 lessons for half the year so review of targets/strabds rarely happens.

What do other people do? Do you have a sheet in back of book which students cross reference to, does this have all the strands all 9 of them?

I am in a real quandry and now only have 4 days until it needs to be submitted

Thank You

Given that the whole NC is about to change anyway, eventually, I wouldn't do anything at all.

When I've taught geography I've used the D-E-J-Ev strand almost entirely to level with (maybe a bit on comparing as well) - it very clearly has a link to KS4 that very little else of the NC does. I'd also add map skills and graphs and so on and general investigation skills in. I think I had some sort of content about the environmental change bit of the LD as well, but that was it tbh.

I imagine you have better things to do?

I have a pupil friendly level descriptor sheet that a student focus group designed last year that you're welcome to have. I can't seem to find the attach button on this forum but if you send me your address I will email you a copy.
